Higher Order Mode measurements at ALICE

Introduction

ALICE is an Energy Recovery Linac Prototype (previously known as ERLP) located at Daresbury in the UK.

The aim of this research is two-fold:

  1. To determine the magnitude of a misalignment between the initial two accelerating cavities.
  2. To investigate the possibility of providing a system to measure the phase of the circulating bunches (i.e. each primary and recirculated bunch).

The measurements will be based on the Higher Order Modes (HOMs) produced as the beam passes through the accelerating cavities.
